Jonah
Despite Jonah's rebellion, disobedience and selfishness, God uses him to bring salvation to an entire city. It's God's goodness and faithfulness, not ours.
Jesus was consumed by death, hell and the grave, so that we could be consumed by grace.
Jesus is the true & greater Jonah,
who spilled His innocent blood in order to save His unrighteous friends
Despite the voice of the Lord Himself, Jonah felt he was right. Everyone wants, needs and craves right-ness. There is One Who is good and there is One Who is right, and Jesus freely gives His righteousness to us.
The story of Jonah begins with him at a crossroads, a decision he is forced to make, faith or flight. This is an intersection that the gospel pushes us towards every time we hear it.
